Forging ties between Russia and Japan
Culture is the universal foundation that reinforces mutual respect, understanding and friendship between people and countries alike. Forging cultural links between national academic institutions, governments and the wider community is key to developing more harmonised diplomatic relations between nations.
Having developed a love and enthusiasm for Japan, its culture and language while studying Japanese at MGIMO, Dr Chodiev made it his mission to improve the cultural and academic dialogue between Russia and Japan.
As a result, the International Chodiev Foundation is today widely engaged in popularising Japanese culture in Russia and vice versa, in addition to supporting international research and educational placements for top MGIMO students in Japanese universities.
Among many smaller activities, we actively support the following:
- J-Fest – We are a long-time sponsor of this annual festival of contemporary Japanese culture in Russia.
- Russian Culture Festival in Japan – we are a main sponsor of this festival which promotes Russian theatre, cinema and exhibitions to the Japanese people.
- We rescued and preserved the Itchiku Kubota collection.
- We also sponsor and publish books and journals.
